Federal Premium makes their Tactical Rifle Urban (TRU) 223 ammunition for law enforcement (LE) applications. Can you still order this ammo if you aren’t a cop? Yes sir.
This cartridge’s 55 grain bullet is the GameKing by Sierra. The boat tail hollow point is a popular selection for hunting owing to its superior accuracy and ability to undergo terminal expansion efficiently. If the BTHP strikes a soft medium at a velocity of 2,815 fps (which it will do at ~10’ after clearing a 14.5” barrel), it will penetrate to a depth of 11.25”, expand to a diameter of 0.523”, and retain over 90% of its original weight. Expect reasonable variation in the bullet’s terminal performance during real-world scenarios, but also trust the GameKing to perform just as you want when you’re firing in defense of your life.
This Minnesota-made ammo’s cases are military-grade, with thicker-than-average walls and crimped noncorrosive primers. Its propellant is formulated to minimize muzzle flash, and therefore prevent the shooter’s eyesight from shifting out of night vision mode in response to bright light. It helps keep your ability to see your target intact if you ever have to fire at night – a potentially invaluable advantage to have.
